Industrialism is the system in which a society gets its wealth from factories, machines, and big industry, not from farms or from people making things by hand. It is a textbook and ideas word: you use it for how a whole country is organised, or for the belief that this is the right way to grow. It feels formal. Though actually, people mix it up with industrialization all the time. Industrialization is the change — the years when the factories go up. Industrialism is the system, or the thinking, that sits on top of that. In some books the word is almost neutral (“the age of industrialism”). In others it has a sour taste, as if the writer means we let industry run everything. You will not hear it much in the shop; you will meet it in history and social studies.
