If a question, joke, or subject is indelicate, it is likely to people or give them a shock they did not ask for. It is not always "dirty" in a sexual way, though it can be. It can also be too blunt about money, illness, death, weight, or why someone is still single. Delicate talk takes care; indelicate talk does not. The word is formal, even a little old. In everyday English people more often say rude, inappropriate, or "that's a bit much." You will still meet it in books, in chilly , and in "I don't wish to be indelicate, but…" — which, though actually, usually means the speaker is about to be exactly that.
