From Old French incurable, from Late Latin incurabilis: in- 'not' + curare 'to take care of, to heal' (from cura 'care').
從古法文 incurable 來，源頭是晚期拉丁文 incurabilis：in-「不」+ curare「照顧、醫治」（來自 cura「照料」）。所以字面就是「照顧不來、治不好」。值得注意的是 cura 原本是「用心照料」，不只是給藥——這也解釋了為什麼這個字後來能從病症延伸到習性：兩者都是「再怎麼下功夫也扭不過來」。
