If something is changeable, it does not stay the same for long. The most natural home for the word is weather: a changeable day can be sunny, then wet, then windy, all before lunch. People also use it for moods, plans, and colours that keep shifting. It often carries a small sigh — you cannot really count on this. There is a quieter second reading, “able to be changed” (a changeable cover on a cushion), but in everyday talk the “keeps changing by itself” sense is the one you will hear. Though actually, those two readings live in the same spelling, and only the rest of the sentence tells you which one is meant.
組成change + -able. Here -able does not mainly mean “you can change it”; it means “having the nature of changing”. Change itself comes from old French, from Late Latin cambiare, “to change”.
