Increasing means becoming bigger — in amount, number, or how strong something is. You hear it a lot before a noun: increasing numbers, increasing pressure, increasing worry. That is the still-happening picture. It is also just the -ing form of the verb: prices are increasing. Though actually, careful writing keeps increasing (still rising) and increased (already bigger) apart; everyday speech is looser, and people do mix them. The word itself is ordinary. You will meet it in news and school more than in very casual chat, where “going up” and “more and more” feel easier.
