Inconsequentially means in a way that does not matter, or while talking about things that do not matter. Someone may mention a fact inconsequentially — as a small side note, not as the point. It can also describe an action whose result is tiny. The word is formal; most people would just say “it doesn’t matter” or “in passing.” You will see it in careful writing more than you will hear it on the bus. Though actually, because consequently is a much more common word, sometimes hear this and think it means “as a result.” It does not. It is almost the opposite mood: this does not lead anywhere important.
