    Impropriety is behaviour — or one action — that is wrong or not acceptable by moral, social, or professional rules. It does not always mean a crime. A gift that looks like a bribe, a joke that is too rude at a funeral, a teacher getting too close to a student: people may call those impropriety. News and official reports like the word because it sounds serious without always naming a law. You will often see it with a kind: financial impropriety, sexual impropriety. Though actually, what counts as impropriety changes with time and place. Something 'improper' in a court or a church may be ordinary among friends. The word is formal; in casual talk people just say it was wrong, rude, or out of line.

組成From French impropriété, from Latin improprietās. You can also see it as improper + -iety, or as im- (not) + propriety (correct behaviour).
