This is how you do something when you will not be moved. You oppose someone implacably when you keep opposing, and nothing — time, gifts, or sweet talk — changes your mind. It is the adverb of implacable, and it has the same formal, rather literary feel. You often hear it before opposed: “implacably opposed to the plan.” Though actually, it can also describe a look, a campaign, or a force that just keeps coming. It is not a casual kitchen word; in everyday talk people more often say firmly or they would not budge.
