Impetuosity is the noun for doing things in a rush, without stopping to think first — or for the quality of a person who is like that. It can name a habit (his impetuosity gets him into trouble) or a single act (the impetuosity of that decision). It is not always an insult. People sometimes like a bit of it in love or in sport, the feeling of going for it. More often it is a gentle criticism: you moved too fast. The word is fairly formal. Everyday English prefers impulsiveness, haste, or simply “you didn’t think.” Though actually, it sits beside impetus, a push that sets something moving. Impetuosity is that push inside a person, before the mind has caught up.
組成impetuous + -ity (the quality of being that way). From English impetuous + -ity; English also had the noun from Middle French impétuosité, from Old French.
