You do something impassively when you do it with no feeling on your face or in your voice. You answer impassively; you watch impassively. It is the how-word for : same idea, but it tells you about the action, not the person. It is a little formal. Though actually, a person who speaks impassively may still feel a great deal — they have only chosen, or learned, not to show it.
