An impassive face or person does not show emotion. Good news or bad news, the look stays still. It does not mean the person has no feelings inside — only that they do not let them out. Police, doctors, and card players are often described this way. It is a little formal. Though actually, passive here is the old idea of being acted on, and im- means “not”, so “not moved”. A blank look can be calm, or it can feel cold; the word itself does not choose.

組成im- (“not”) + passive (“acted on; old sense: able to suffer”). So “not moved / not showing that feeling has acted on you”.
