    Illicitly is the adverb: you do something in an illicit way — against the law, against the rules, or against what society will accept. Money obtained illicitly was not earned in a way the rules allow. A couple meeting illicitly are meeting in a way others would strongly of. Though actually, as with illicit, this is not only criminally. It can be the hidden, against-the-rules manner of an act. It is formal. In everyday talk, people say illegally, on the sly, or they should not have. Keep it for writing, news, and careful speech, and hang it on a verb: sell, obtain, copy, meet.
