    Illegibility is the noun for the quality of being hard or impossible to read. If a note is a mess of lines, its illegibility is the problem: your eyes cannot turn the marks into words. It is not about a difficult idea. The meaning might be simple, but the writing, the print, or the copy will not sit still for you. Though actually, people almost never say this word out loud. They say I cannot read this or the writing is terrible. You will meet illegibility in more formal notes — a teacher's comment, a form filled in badly, an old letter. It always points at reading with the eyes, not at understanding a hard text that is printed clearly.
