- 1
Something ill-timed happens, is done, or is said at the wrong moment. The joke lands when someone has just had bad news; a price rise comes the week people lost work; you ask for a favour while your friend is already . The thing itself might be fine — even kind — but the clock is wrong, so it hurts or fails. It is a fairly formal word; everyday talk uses “bad timing” more. Though actually, ill-timed judges the moment, not always the person: a storm can be ill-timed, and a storm has no manners. The sting is when, not always what.
時機不佳的、不合時宜的
組成ill (badly) + timed (placed in time). The pieces are clear: badly timed.
