If something is idiot-proof, it is made so simple that even a very careless or unskilled person will not break it or do it wrong. A plug that only fits one way, a lid that will not close unless it is on straight, a form that will not let you click Next until every box is filled — those are idiot-proof designs. People also use it as a verb: to idiot-proof a process means to change it so mistakes become almost impossible. The word is informal and a bit rude about the user, so in kind or professional English you will often hear , fail-safe, or just “easy to use” instead. In Taiwan tech talk, 防呆 is the everyday cousin.
