I've is the short form of I have. The mark ' shows that ha has been taken out. It does two jobs, and both are real. First, I have as a before another verb, to talk about life up to now: I've seen that film; I've lived here two years. In speaking, this I've is what you will hear. Second, I have meaning “I own / I hold”: I've a question. Though actually, that bare I've + thing is more British and a bit old-fashioned. Younger speakers, and almost all American speakers, say I've got a question or I have a question instead. I've not and I haven't both exist; I've not sounds more British. None of this is I'm: I've is have, I'm is am.
