Hurtfulness is the quality of causing upset or offence — how wounding something is. You talk about the hurtfulness of a remark, of a joke, of silence when someone needed kindness. It names the trait in the words or the act, not the feeling inside the other person. That feeling is hurt, or pain. The word is rather formal and a little heavy; in class and in daily talk, “how it was” or “the hurt it caused” will sound more natural. Keep hurtfulness for when you truly need a noun: the hurtfulness of the review surprised me. Though actually, students sometimes use it as if it meant “being hurt.” It does not. A person feels hurt; a comment has hurtfulness.
傷人;傷人的程度
