Hurray is a happy shout — the same cheer as and hurrah, only spelled another way. You call it out when something good happens: a team scores, a wish comes true, someone walks in after a long wait. In writing, hurray and are both fine; hurrah can feel a little older. People also say hurray for… to mean “good for that person / that thing.” It is warm and informal, a bit like a child’s cheer that adults still use with a smile. Though actually, these are not three different words with three different meanings. They are one shout in different clothes. In a text message, “Hurray!” can stand alone; in careful writing it is still just that cry of joy, not a full explanation.
組成A cheer. The exact origin is not settled: it is probably the same shout as German hurra, which spread as a battle and hunting cry and then as a cry of joy. The English spellings hurray, hooray, and hurrah are the same word.
