"Hurled" means threw something hard and with a lot of force - much stronger than just "threw". For example, "he hurled the rock across the yard" shows real effort, often connected with anger or strong emotion. Informally, "hurled" is also slang for vomited - "he ate too much and hurled" - this use is casual and a bit crude, best avoided in polite or formal conversation.
