Humorous means funny in a warm, enjoyable way — the kind of funny that makes you smile or laugh softly, not the kind that shocks you. A humorous story, a humorous comment, a humorous drawing. It is more polite and more written than funny: teachers and book reviews like it. Though actually, in everyday talk people just say funny much more often; humorous can sound a little careful. It is weaker than hilarious, and in modern English it does not mean 'in a good mood' (that is / in a good humour). The word is built on humor, which once also named body fluids and a person's temper; the 'funny' meaning is the one meet now.
