A humorist is someone whose gift — and often whose work — is to be funny, especially in writing. A humorist funny stories, funny columns, or funny talks that make people smile. A comedian usually performs on a stage; a humorist more often works on the page, though actually some people do both and the line is not clean. The word feels a little grown-up and : you meet it on book covers and in newspapers more than in teenage chat. The spelling follows American humor. British English humour for the base word, but humorist is still the form you will see most.
