HTML is Markup Language, the set of tags — little labels such as headings, paragraphs, and pictures — that tell a web browser how to show a page: what is a title, what is a photo, where a link goes. Though actually, it is not a programming language in the same way as Python; it marks up the page rather than doing calculations. Tim Berners-Lee made it in the early 1990s so pages on the internet could point to one another (that is the “” part). You do not need to write HTML to use the web, but every website is built with it underneath, often together with CSS for looks and JavaScript for clicks and movement. People say the letters: H-T-M-L. It is everyday computer talk worldwide.
