A hotelier is the person who owns a hotel, or the person who runs it as their job — not the receptionist, and not every staff member. It is a slightly formal, slightly French-sounding word, so you meet it in newspapers, travel writing, and business talk more than in everyday chat. An ordinary speaker might just say hotel owner or hotel manager. Though actually, the line between owner and manager is messy: a hotelier may own twenty hotels and never stand at a desk, or may live in a small inn and do the cooking. The word still points to the person in charge of the hotel as a business.
