A horseman is someone who rides horses, especially someone who does it well or as part of their life — a rider, not just a person who sat on a horse once. In older stories and in the countryside it is a normal word; today many people just say rider. It usually points to a man. For a woman people more often say , or again rider. It can also be a family name. Though actually, it is not a knight in armour. English keeps horseman for the rider, and knight for the old fighting noble.
