A honeybee is the familiar hive bee that makes the honey people eat. Not every bee does this. Many wild bees live alone and make little or no honey we can take; bumblebees make a bit, but the honey in a jar is from honeybees. They live in a colony, with a queen, and they store honey in wax comb. You will see honeybee written as one word or as honey bee; both are used, and both mean this insect, not a bee that merely likes flowers. In easy talk people just say bee, but honeybee is the precise word when you need to mark “the one that makes honey.”
