Hon is a short, warm way to say honey when you speak to someone you care about. Couples use it: Morning, hon. Though actually, in some parts of the United States a waiter or a shop worker may also call a customer hon, even if they have just met. That is meant to be friendly, not romantic — and not everyone likes it; some people feel it is too close, or a little old. It is spoken English. You almost never write it in a formal letter. Spell this word hon; hun with a u is a different, ruder old insult.
