1. 1

Homophobic is the describing word. A joke, a law, a film, or a person can be homophobic when it shows that dislike or fear of gay people. You meet it in the same places as — news, school, arguments. Calling someone a homophobic as a noun is possible but sharp, like pinning a label on them; most careful speakers keep it as a describing word: a homophobic remark. Though actually, it does not mean “afraid of men”, even though the first piece can look that way. Same story as the noun: it is not mainly a doctor's word for panic; it is about prejudice.
