Homeschooling is the name of that way of learning: teaching children at home instead of sending them to school. The -ing word talks about the practice, the plan, the life — “homeschooling works for us” — and it also talks about the action as it happens. Though actually, homeschooling does not mean “no school”. The children still have lessons, and in Taiwan there is still paperwork. Some families do it for a year; some do it all the way through. The word is everyday in American English; here you will hear 在家自學 more often than the English.
