Hollywood is a part of Los Angeles, in California, in the United States. Film studios grew there, so the name jumped from the place to the business. When people say “Hollywood,” they often mean the American film world as a whole — the stars, the big movies, the awards — not only those few streets. You might say someone “went to Hollywood” to become an actor, or that a film has a “Hollywood ending,” where everything turns out happy.
