    A hippy (also spelled "hippie") was originally someone in the 1960s and 70s who rejected mainstream society's rules about money, war, and traditional lifestyles, and instead valued peace, love, and freedom, often living in shared communities. Today, "hippy" is also used loosely for anyone with a relaxed, natural, unconventional style, like loose clothing, no shoes, or interest in things like meditation.
