    A high-rise is a tall building with many floors, usually flats or offices stacked one on top of another. As an adjective: a high-rise apartment, a high-rise block. As a noun: they live in a high-rise. Rise here is the building going up, not getting out of bed. Cities use the word for towers that change the ; a two-storey house is not a high-rise, and neither is a mountain. There is a quieter pair, low-rise, for shorter blocks. Some people say tower block instead. The feeling is urban and modern — a place you take a lift, not a church .
