A high-profile person, case, or event is one that many people notice — newspapers, TV, social media. Companies often want that on purpose: a high-profile campaign is meant to be seen. Though actually the dictionary’s “usually deliberately” is tidier than life: a high-profile court case can pull in cameras whether anyone asked or not. Profile here is the public outline of something, how visible it is — related to the older “side view of a face,” but in this compound nobody is talking about noses. It sits before nouns: a high-profile job, a high-profile arrest. News English uses it constantly. The quiet pair is low-profile: staying out of the spotlight on purpose. Fame is not the same as rank: a high-profile singer may have no office at all.
