    When an animal hibernates, it goes into a very deep rest for the winter: it finds a safe place, its body slows right down, and it lives off fat stored earlier in the year. It is not ordinary sleep. A sleeping cat will wake if you touch it; a hibernating hedgehog is much further under, and it may stay like that for months. Bears, bats, and some other animals do this.
