Hexagonal means “in the shape of a ” or “having six sides” — it is the adjective, not the name of the shape itself. Hexagonal tiles, a hexagonal box, a hexagonal pencil that will not roll off the desk. In science you also hear it for a kind of crystal packing. The noun is ; this -al form just says “of that six-sided kind.” Though actually, people sometimes point at a thing and call it “a hexagonal,” leaving the noun out; careful English keeps hexagonal in front of a noun, or says “a hexagonal one.”
