A hermitage is the place where a hermit lives, or once lived: a hut, a small house, or a quiet building away from other people. It is a place-word, not a person-word. Some old hermitages later became tiny churches or rooms that visitors could stay in. You may also meet Hermitage as a proper name — a famous museum, a grand house, a kind of wine — which grew from the same idea of a quiet religious house, but those names are not “a hermit’s hut” in the everyday sense. If you only need the meaning: it is the hermit’s home.
