Herefordshire is a county in western England, right next to Wales. Its main town is Hereford. It is farming country, and it is famous for Hereford cattle — the ones with white faces that people raise in many countries. The -shire on the end is the old English word for a county, so the name is really “the county of Hereford.” Though actually, English speakers often say the whole name without thinking of the town; the county and the city share the name, but they are not the same size of place. You will not hear this word much in Taiwan except in a geography class, a travel plan, or talk about those cattle. It is a place name, so it stays capitalised. It is not an American state, and it is not the same as Hereford, Texas — that is a different Hereford.
