1. 1

A hemophiliac is a person who has hemophilia: their blood does not clot well, so they bleed too easily and for too long. This is the American spelling; British English . You will still see the word in news and older medical writing. Though actually, many patients and doctors now prefer to say a person with hemophilia, because hemophiliac can sound as if the illness is the whole of who someone is. Both forms point to the same fact about the body. It is a noun for the person, not the name of the illness itself — that name is hemophilia. It is not a word for someone who likes the sight of blood, even though -philiac in other words can mean a person with a strong liking.
