    A helpline is a telephone number you can ring when you need advice or information — a bank, a hospital, a school, or a crisis service. You call because you need help, not for a chat. In news and on posters it often sits next to the number itself. Though actually it does not have to be a warm human voice any more; some helplines are mostly menus and recordings. The idea is still the same: a line set up so you can ask.
