    Heather is a low plant that grows on hills and open wild land, especially in Britain. Its little flowers are purple, pink, or white, and from far away a whole can look like a soft coloured carpet. It likes poor, rather dry ground — the kind of place called a heath. Though actually, heather is also a girl's name in English, said the same way; that is a different use. Here we mean the plant.

組成Does not split in modern English. From Middle English hather / hathir, from Old English hæþ (the same old word that gave us heath) and a related plant name. Scots hedder and Dutch heide are cousins.
