A heat-seeking weapon — most often a missile — can find the hot gas that comes out of a plane or a rocket and fly towards that heat until it hits. The machine is not looking with eyes; it follows warmth. You meet the word in news about war and in action films. Ordinary talk almost never needs it, except there. Though actually, you will sometimes hear a joke, heat-seeking, about a person who always sits next to the heater — that is play. The real home of the word is weapons.
heat-seeking 說的是會追著熱源走的武器，最常見的是飛彈。它靠偵測飛機或火箭噴出的熱氣，一路朝熱源飛過去，直到擊中目標。重點在於機器不是用眼睛看，而是追著熱度走。
這個字最常出現在「a heat-seeking weapon」這樣的說法裡，主要見於戰爭新聞和動作片。日常對話幾乎用不到，除非是在談武器。
另外有人會開玩笑，說某人總愛坐在暖氣旁邊，也叫他 heat-seeking，但那是玩笑，不是這個字的本業。
