A headmaster is the man who runs a whole school. He may still teach, but that is not the point of the word: he is the person in charge of the teachers, the students, and the rules. This is mainly a British word, and it feels a bit old and formal now. In American English people say principal instead. In Britain you will still meet headmaster in older schools, in school stories, and in Harry Potter, but many schools today say head teacher or just the head, because those words do not tell you if the person is a man or a woman. You would not use headmaster for the boss of a company, and you would not use it for an ordinary male teacher.
