    A hayrick is a big pile of dry grass in a field, built so farm animals can eat through the winter. It is the same thing as a haystack. Though actually, hayrick feels older and more British; in everyday American English people almost always say haystack. You still meet hayrick in countryside stories and older books, not much in farm talk now.
