    A hayloft is the top part of a barn, the farm building where animals live and food is kept. Farmers store hay there — dry grass for the animals in winter — stacked under the roof, above the stalls. You often climb a ladder to reach it. Though actually, many farms today do not use a hayloft. They leave big wrapped bundles of hay outside. You will meet the word in stories about old farms more than in city life.
