A hawker is someone who carries goods from place to place and tries to sell them — in the street, from door to door, or from a small stall they can move.

It is an older English word for a travelling or street seller. In much of Asia, especially Singapore and Malaysia, hawker is still the everyday word for a street-food cook or stallholder; a hawker centre is a big hall of those stalls.

In Taiwan we have the same kind of person, but we usually say the Chinese word, not hawker. The meaning here is the seller.

In Taiwan在台灣 we have the same kind of person我們也有一樣的人, but we usually say the Chinese word但我們通常說中文詞, not hawker不說 hawker。 The meaning here這裡的意思 is是 the seller指賣東西的人。

There is another hawker, spelled the same, who hunts with a hawk; that is a different word with a different history, and it is not this sense.
