When當 a game一場比賽、 a race一場賽跑、 or an election或一場選舉 is hard-fought是 hard-fought 的時候, both sides兩邊都 want to win very badly非常非常想贏, and they keep using而且一直用著 almost all their strength幾乎全部的力氣。 Nobody沒有人 is taking it easy在放輕鬆。 The score比分 often常常 for a long time長時間 stays close咬得很緊, and you而你 can feel感覺得到 how much it costs them這讓他們付出多少。
We say this a lot about sport — a hard-fought match, a hard-fought win — and the news uses it for votes and other contests too. It usually sits in front of a noun.
We我們 about sport講運動時 say this a lot很常這樣說 — a hard-fought match一場 hard-fought 的比賽、 a hard-fought win一場 hard-fought 的勝利 — and the news uses it too新聞也拿它 for votes and other contests用在投票和其他競賽上。 It它 usually通常 sits坐 in front of a noun在名詞前面。
It does not mean the thing itself is hard like a rock. Though actually, a hard-fought win is not the same as a loud win that was never in doubt: the point is the struggle was real.
It does not mean它的意思不是 the thing itself那個東西本身 is hard硬得 like a rock像石頭。 Though actually不過其實, a hard-fought win一場 hard-fought 的勝利, as和 that was never in doubt從頭到尾沒懸念的 a loud win大勝 is not the same不一樣: the point is重點是 the struggle那場纏鬥 was real是真的。
It is also not the same as hard-won. Hard-fought pictures the fight against someone; hard-won pictures the prize you got after a lot of work.
It它 as hard-won和 hard-won is also not the same也不一樣。 Hard-fought pictures「hard-fought」畫的是 against someone和某個人 the fight對打的那一仗; hard-won pictures「hard-won」畫的是 after a lot of work下了很多工夫之後 you got你得到的 the prize那份獎賞。
組成hard (with a lot of effort) + fought (the past form of fight).
同家族的字
- fightfought is the past form of fight; this word is built on that verb
