If something is handmade, people made it with their hands, not on a factory line. A handmade bag, a handmade card, a handmade cake: someone sat there and did the work. Shops use the word to say this is slow and careful, not cheap plastic from a machine. Though actually, handmade does not mean “no tools at all” — a potter can use a wheel and the pot is still handmade. And it is not the same as homemade. Homemade means you made it at home. Handmade means hands did the making, even in a small shop.
