1. 1

Hallucinogenic describes something — almost always a drug or a plant — that can make a person have hallucinations. We say hallucinogenic drugs, a hallucinogenic mushroom, a hallucinogenic effect. That adjective use is the main one. You will sometimes see it as a noun (“a hallucinogenic”) meaning the drug itself, but the pattern students will actually meet is the describing word in front of another noun. It sits in science, medicine, and news, not in playground chat. It names the kind of effect. It does not, by itself, mean “illegal” or “safe.”
