Holy, sacred, or treated with great honor and respect — often used for a place or tradition people treat very seriously because something important, tragic, or historic happened there, like a battlefield or a beloved old building ('hallowed ground'). It's also the word inside the Lord's Prayer line 'Hallowed be thy name,' meaning 'may your name be honored as holy.'
