Haitian is not the name of the country — that is Haiti. Haitian names a person from Haiti, and it is also the adjective: Haitian food, Haitian history, a Haitian passport. People also say Haitian for Haitian Creole, the everyday language most people there grow up speaking (French is used too, especially in school and official life). You write it with a capital H. The country sits on with the Dominican Republic; a Haitian is from the Haiti side. Though actually, sometimes treat Haitian as if it were another spelling of Haiti. It isn’t: one is the place, one is the people (or the language, or “of that place”).
組成Haiti + -an (a person or thing from that place). The -an ending came into English through French and Latin -anus.
