1. 1

A hairstyle is the way someone’s hair has been cut and shaped — short or long, straight or curly, with a fringe, a bun, braids, and so on. It is the look, not just the fact of cutting. You can change a hairstyle with a cut, with colour, or just by wearing it differently that day. People talk about a new hairstyle after the salon, or say a hairstyle does not suit someone. It is a neutral, everyday word; is more old-fashioned or playful. Though actually, haircut is narrower: the cutting. Hairstyle is the whole picture you see.
